In the afternoon, we explore the central Colonial Church of Cusco by foot, located on one side of the Plaza. We visit the Holy family, the Cathedral, and the Triunfo church, all churches part of the main Cathedral. We have many paintings and canvases in the main church, including the Andean version of the Last Supper, which is the best picture in Cusco state. The Incans and Colonials designed the architecture of Cusco Plaza as unique. And we can appreciate the Spanish baroque style in all the royal Inca houses.
After a short walk, we arrive at the famous 12 angles stone. This stone is part of the Inca green granite wall and house of the Inca Roca ruler. Qoricancha is also located near the Plaza, and just two blocks and a half walking, we find the Inca golden temple. This temple has many Inca rooms dedicated to the Inca religion. QoricanchaPark is part of the Santo Domingo church.
This is a leisurely tour to acclimatize you to the high altitude of Cusco city. We also recommend that you drink plenty of Coca tea.
Day 2: 04 Ruins (Cusco City Tour) and Moray and Salineras
We drive towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. First, we go to Tambomachay (the Inca ritual fountain), Puca Pucara (the Inca red fortress), Qenqo (The Inca amphitheater), and Sacsaywaman (the head of the Puma Falcon and temple of the Sun). We provide a box lunch for our clients to have a picnic lunch at one of the lookouts or near the Incan sites (around noon). Then we go to the next Incan place of Moray, which includes the Inca’s greenhouse and those Inca terraces with a ring shape, unique in Peru and South America). Our final place to visit is the Salineras of Maras (Inca salt mine, where the Inca salt is still traditionally farmed.
Then we transfer you to the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Ollantaytambo village to spend the night there.
Overnight at Ollantaytambo at the Albergue

Machu Picchu Park is located northwest of Ollantaytambo and is located in the cloud forest. Arriving at Aguas Calientes village, we have to walk 7 minutes to the bus station of Consetur to board the tourist bus service. The ride is half an hour to Machu Picchu Park. At the main gate, the entrance is ready with your ticket and passport to enter one of the wonders of the world. Machu Picchu walking tour is given by our local guide (a professional guide and English speaking).
Machu Picchu, which means “Old Mountain,” has many trails that go up and down. It certainly is an active itinerary. The guided tour takes 3 hours, then everyone, including the guide, has to return to Aguas Calientes village to return by train to Ollantaytambo village. We arrive at Ollantaytambo train station around 6 or 7:30 PM and to walk to our hotel that we stayed at the previous night (19-minute walk).
Note: If you want to stay longer at Machu Picchu Park, please tell us to organize a train back to Ollantaytambo at night (6:20 PM), and you can be at the hotel by 8 PM.
Lunch included at Tinkuy restaurant.
Day 4: Tour to Ollantaytambo Park and Chinchero
This tour takes us through part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the road back to Cusco city.
This tour takes us through part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the road back to Cusco city.
Today we will start at 10:00 AM because the day before was rather intense. We start by touring Ollantaytambo Park before the crowds arrive. Ollantaytambo is built in a perfect location to have control of the 3 Andes valleys. The boulder of the Sun temple is spectacular with Ollantaytambo sides. We can find plenty of red stones everywhere. The Inca workers never finished this Incan site.
After visiting this magnificent location, we have to go back to Cusco city with all our luggage. Still, on the way back, we stop at Yanahuara, a small settlement where we observe how the Incas lived in the Inca houses. There are still some families who are living like historical Inca times. We also have an excellent opportunity to taste the famous Inca beer called Chicha and see the guinea pigs running around. The lunch buffet is at Urubamba village (the largest village in the Sacred Valley of the Incas).
Explore Chinchero park. On the way, we can observe the tropical snow glacier of Urubamba. At Chinchero, we first visit a textile center. Those families decided to form a cooperative to offer souvenirs at affordable prices. If you purchase one of these souvenirs or textile products, you are helping the Andes people. We also see weaving ponchos, textiles, Inca pants, gloves, hats of original Alpaca wool at the textile center. They also show you how to obtain natural color from plants, herbs, and roots used in their products which keep their blooms for many years.
We see Alpacas during our visit and go to Chinchero archaeological site to explore those exceptional Inca walls of the Pachakuteq residence. (It said that the Pachakuetq’s 200 wives lived here). From Chinchero, we have 30 minutes drive to Cusco city, where you are dropped off at your selected hotel.
